Learn how to lock in a guaranteed profit after a 2UP early payout triggers.
This guide shows how to lock in profit after your bookmaker pays out early on a 2UP offer. You’ll prepare before kick-off, then place one extra exchange bet when the trigger hits to equalise both possible outcomes.
No. Locking in is optional. Some users prefer to lock in profit after the early payout; others let it ride.
If you let it ride and the match swings back (often called an FTA, where the team goes 2 goals up but then draws or loses), you keep the bookmaker's early payout and your exchange lay wins at full-time. That combination can produce a much larger profit than a lock in. However, if you don't lock in and the team still wins, then your profit is the small qualifying loss.
• A pre-match back bet at the bookmaker and a matching lay bet on the exchange (normal qualifier).
• Your exchange commission rate.
• Our 2UP Early Payout calculator.
If your team goes two goals ahead in normal time, the bookmaker settles your back bet as a winner immediately. Your exchange lay bet remains live until the final whistle. You now have two choices: do nothing and let it ride, or lock in profit using one extra exchange BACK bet. This guide shows the lock-in steps.
1) In the calculator, enter your pre-match back stake, back odds, lay odds, and lay commission.
2) Click the toggle next to 'Bookmaker Has Paid Out Early'.
3) Enter the LIVE exchange BACK odds for your team as well as the commission on the exchange.
4) The calculator gives one number: the exchange BACK stake to place now.
5) Place that BACK bet on the exchange at the shown odds. If the price moves, re-run the calculator and update the stake.
6) You're locked in, profit is the same whether your team goes on to win or not.

After you place the lock-in back bet, the exchange and bookmaker positions offset. If your team WINS: you already have the bookie payout; the exchange lay loses but your new exchange back wins, and totals match the locked-in profit. If your team does NOT win: you keep the bookie payout and the original exchange lay wins while the new exchange back loses its stake, and again, totals match. The calculator sets the stake so both totals are equal.
• Check you’re on the Match Result market.
• Use decimal odds and your exact commission.
• If odds move, re-run the calculator before placing.
• Small price differences are fine once you re-calculate.
• Try to keep stakes natural for account health.
