What is a price boost?

A price boost is when a bookmaker temporarily increases the odds on a selection (sometimes an acca). If the boosted back odds are higher than the exchange lay odds, you can often lock in a small instant profit by backing at the bookie and laying on the exchange.

Example of a bookmaker price boost banner
Boosted odds are usually time-limited and appear on event pages or promos.
This guide focuses on single-selection boosts. Acca boosts exist too, but laying an acca requires a different approach. You will learn more about this in future guides.

How to do one (quick steps)

1) Find a boost on a popular market.
2) Check the matching lay market and liquidity on the exchange.
3) Enter numbers into your calculator (normal mode), including commission.
4) Place the back bet at the boosted price, then the lay bet at the exchange price.

Mock-up of a calculator showing back odds and lay odds for a price boost
Use normal mode to equalise the result and lock in a small profit.

Example

Back boosted, lay lower (illustration)

Back £25 at 2.50 (boosted), lay at 2.36 with 2% exchange commission
Lay stake ≈ (25 × 2.50) ÷ (2.36 − 0.02) = £26.71
Profit either way ≈ £1.18 (rounded). Real profits vary by prices and commission.

You can use our standard calculator to calculate your stake and profit.

Good habits

Stick to big events so your lay bet matches quickly. Avoid obscure ‘specials’ that don’t have a lay market. Read any terms (max stake, in-play only, boost times). Keep your staking natural on the bookmaker to help account health over time.

You can still lay price boosts if they are an accumulator, however, this does require some advanced techniques which we will cover in future guides.
