What this offer is

Some bookmakers credit a free bet when your horse WINS at or above a stated odds threshold (for example, 5.0 or higher). The free bet is stake-not-returned (SNR) and usually capped (e.g., up to your stake or up to a fixed amount). You qualify by placing a win single on eligible races and meeting the minimum odds in the terms.

Thresholds and caps vary by bookmaker. Always confirm the eligible races and minimum odds.

How to approach it (beginner method)

1) Identify an eligible race and selection with tight back/lay prices at or above the required odds.
2) Back the horse at the bookmaker (WIN single).
3) Lay the same horse on the exchange (WIN market), including commission in your calculator.
4) If the horse wins at or above the threshold, the bookmaker credits a free bet; if it loses, you incur only the planned qualifying loss.

Open Oddsmatcher

Example (qualifier)

Back £25 @ 5.00 (bookie) → Lay @ 5.10 (2% comm)

Lay stake ≈ £24.61; exchange liability ≈ £100.89.
Equalised qualifying loss ≈ £0.89 either way (rounded).
If the horse WINS at or above the threshold, a free bet (often up to your stake) is credited. If it loses, your net result is the small qualifying loss.

Using the free bet (SNR)

Convert the free bet separately for profit. Choose suitable odds (often mid-to-high), lay on the exchange, and retain a proportion of the stake. Typical retention for SNR bets is around 70-80%, depending on prices and commission.

Illustration: £25 SNR → ~75% retention

Back free bet £25 @ 6.00; lay appropriately on the exchange (2% comm).
Expected retained profit ≈ £18.75 from the free bet.
Combined with the ~£0.89 qualifying loss above, net ≈ £17.86 when the winner-at-threshold condition is met.

Terms and practical notes

• Odds threshold: the minimum price is set in the terms (e.g., 5.0 or 4.0). Ensure your final settled odds meet or exceed it.
• Eligible markets: most offers require a WIN single; each way is typically excluded unless stated.
• Caps and credit time: free bets are often capped and credited within a stated window (e.g., within 24 hours). Use them before expiry.
• Liquidity and timing: prefer well-traded races so lays match cleanly; avoid placing during market suspensions near the off.

Bookmaker-specific notes

• Bet365: Risk-free bet for the next race, matched to the value of your qualifying stake up to £50. Be prepared to place the follow-up bet immediately after the qualifying race settles. Use the risk-free bet in stake-not-returned (SNR) mode. Availability is often two races per day; on ITV Racing days, coverage may extend to all races (subject to terms).

• Betfair Sportsbook: Back a winner at odds of 4.0 (3/1) or higher to receive a free bet up to your stake (max £25). This is commonly offered on ITV races, and the free bet can typically be used on any event.

Do not use Betfair Exchange to lay Betfair Sportsbook qualifiers. Use a different exchange.

• Virgin Bet: Back a winner at odds of 4.0 (3/1) or higher to receive a free bet up to your stake (max £20).

Offer availability, thresholds and caps can change. Always confirm the current terms on the operator’s page before placing your qualifier.
